Brand Creation & Product Launch
Lochindaal Single Malt Scotch Whisky

The Project.
Take a passion for whisky, a long-held love of an island and a sleeping investment.
Single Malt Whisky of this kind is a rarity. Distilled on the Isle of Islay by a distillery who no longer sell casks, and matured in casks not usually used for such things. And aged for 16 long years. It’s purists heaven. If whisky like this doesn’t come around very often, briefs certainly don’t either, and it’s one we welcomed and savoured.
Creatively, we could have taken a personal route; dipping into the years of family holidays on Islay – jumping off the pier in Port Charlotte by the remains of the still whitewashed walls of the derelict distillery. Or, we could have leant into the wine cask connection, and presented a classic design. Instead, the chosen creative still takes inspiration from the island – bold blue skies overlooking the titular loch and presenting a name which would catch the eyes of whisky lovers.

This isn’t a whisky to sit on the shelf. There’s a story behind it that needed to be shared.
With over 1,000 different bottles fighting for space, the client wanted to launch the whisky, rather than it apologetically appear. Additionally, at a premium price point with no major bottler’s name on the label, it was important to present this in a matter which respected the whisky. We created media and trade packs – telling the story and inspiration behind the whisky and explaining why it was the right time to bottle it. We really wanted each salesperson to understand what it is like to sit on the windy shores of Loch Indaal, sipping such a special dram.
The results spoke for themselves.
Pre-sales exceeded expectation. So much that the whisky made a very limited general sale appearance. And before long, glowing reviews for the whisky, the branding and our client began appearing online – in the UK, on specialist channels and in mainland European markets too. This in turn re-introduced an audience to our client’s standard range, “The Old Smithy”, as well as a 20% uplift in web traffic in the whisky category. That’s worth raising a glass to.
